Dear everyone,

Here's my reflection of Week 6;

Creating Student-centered Classes and Interactive Power Point

"Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand". I really like this Chinese proverb frome our Week 6  homepage. I strongly agree with it and will always think about it as a redar of my teaching. This week learning provides me many practical ideas to enhance  in my lesson plans as large class is my teaching context. Most of the classes in my school have students about 50-60 students and it's really hard to control and engage them. Thank you Donna and Rick Finnan for very good article, "Enhancing Learning by Engaging Students" which suits my teaching context indeed. I can use many activities in my classes.  I also read the rest readings which impress me  with its useful suggestions and knowledge.

- Interactive Power Point

Previously, when I needed to use PowerPoint, I just coppied the tamplate from someone and changed only the words, but not for this assignment.

At first, I didn't know how to create interactive PowerPoint, spending long time to study from readings resources in our homepage and surfing internet, watching some video from Youtube enabled me to make my very first  DIY Interactive  PowerPont. I'm happy to see my PPT on our Wiki even if it's not very good. I wish I could make it more interactive with motive animations with all assigned elements, but as a new creater, I had to decide that just finished it.

- Project Task 5: I have students to teach and the school just opened last  week, I'm going to implement my technology in my class this week and will keep a log of what I did for sure.

This is one of challengeing  weeks.

Best wishes,

  1. Hi Jirawan!
I feel exactly the same about this week. Thank you for sharing what you went through, I also made a thorough research and learned quite a lot, but somehow feel that PPT is not my cup of tea.

    1. Hi Liat,

Thank you very much for your comment. I rarely used PPT in my teaching as well, but after learning about interactive PPT, I think about using it more.

  2. Hello Jirawan

You have got an interesting name, what does it mean?
I'm also thinking about implementing technology in a classroom, starting from September. I'm going to use all the programs I learned from Webskills so I got my fingers crossed.

  3. Hello Jirawan,

I really like that quote. I found something related with it in Pedagogy and Human Sciences (Michael Mascolo, 2009). In his work, he refers to the constructivist idea that children must be active in constructing their own understandings of the world.

Based on this, I see student-centered pedagogy as an attempt to support the constructive activity of the student; but, I think we should not assume that our role is a secondary issue. On the contrary, we need to support and guide, keeping into account we are raising the future of our societies: a really big responsibility, but a more attractive task.

Thanks on your nice comment on my blog.

    1. Hello Juan,

Thank you for your nice words. You must be a well-read person as you always post interesting references. I couldn't agree more that teacher still play an important role to be a facilitator with less talking time. Constructivism is a paradigm shift of pedagogy indeed.

I like to read your blog and feel like to say something to express my real feelings.
      Best wishes,
